Okada-Tokindo Grant

Japanese Society of Developmental Biologists Young Researchers Overseas Exchange Grant (researcher dispatch / researcher invitation) and Regulations Regarding Operation of Funding Committee

1. Purpose
The Japanese Society of Developmental Biologists was established to cultivate researchers with a global perspective to be future leaders in the field of developmental biology. The Society provides grants to cover a portion of the costs involved when Japanese researchers give presentations on developmental biology at international conferences (academic meetings, symposiums etc.) that are held overseas, or when they attend courses on developmental biology that are taught overseas. The grant is also offered to cover a portion of the costs of inviting outstanding developmental biology researchers from overseas to attend conferences (academic meetings, symposiums etc.) relating to developmental biology that are held in Japan, in order to improve the skills of young researchers in participating in international discussions, holding exchanges of views, making presentations and so on and improve their international reputation. These Regulations have been established to set down the requirements for grant activities relating to researcher dispatch to ensure the proper administration of these activities.

2. Purpose of Young Researchers Overseas Exchange Grant (researcher dispatch / researcher invitation)
This grant shall be awarded to young researchers who are engaged in creative research in developmental biology and who, through attending international conferences and courses as a result of receiving the grant, can be expected to promote and achieve particular progress in developmental biology research in Japan, based on the Japanese Society of Developmental Biologists Tokindo Okada Fund / Young Researchers Overseas Exchange Grant. The grant shall also be awarded to entities that invite overseas researchers with a record of outstanding research achievements to conferences that are held in Japan, in order to improve the skills of young Japanese researchers and improve their international reputation through interchange. 3. Establishment, duties and organization of the Funding Committee
The selection of grant recipients and the administration of the fund shall be conducted by the "Japanese Society of Developmental Biologists Tokindo Okada Fund / Young Researchers Overseas Exchange Grant" Funding Committee.

  1. The Funding Committee shall be established through approval by the Japanese Society of Developmental Biologists Steering Committee.
  2. The Funding Committee shall select grant recipients.

4. Qualification requirements for grant application, etc.
The qualifications for grant applicants, the amount of grant, purpose of the grant, obligations of recipients etc. shall be in accordance with the separate "Japanese Society of Developmental Biologists Tokindo Okada Fund / Young Researchers Overseas Exchange Grant Application Guidelines." These Guidelines shall be established by the Funding Committee.

5. Revisions to these Regulations
Revisions to these Regulations must be approved by the Japanese Society of Developmental Biologists Steering Committee.

Note:
These Regulations were established on December 12, 2014 at the 23rd meeting of the Steering Committee and went into effect on that day.

Article 3 Establishment, duties and organization of Funding Committee

  1. Organization of Funding Committee
    The Funding Committee shall comprise one Chair (Chair of the Japanese Society of Developmental Biologists), one Vice-Chair (Secretary-General or Assistant Secretary-General of the Japanese Society of Developmental Biologists), and a number of committee members.
  2. Terms of Funding Committee members
    The first term shall be January 1, 2015 to December 31, 2016. The second term (starting January 1, 2017) and subsequent terms for committee members shall be studied and established by the Steering Committee of the Japanese Society of Developmental Biologists prior to the end of the term of the current Committee.
  3. Selection of grant recipients by Funding Committee
    Grant recipients shall be decided by the Chair of the Funding Committee following consultation by the Funding Committee based on an examination of documents (rating). The Chair of the Funding Committee shall report the selection decision to the Japanese Society of Developmental Biologists Steering Committee. The selection shall take into consideration the degree to which the grant will contribute effectively to the progress of the applicant's research and globalization.
